Laser vs Waxing / Shaving

Laser hair removal is the only method of permanent hair removal that will leave the treated area completely smooth and free of hair. It is not an instant solution and you will require 6 to 8 treatment sessions to completely remove both active and dormant hair leaving your skin smooth and natural. Once removed, and depending on your hair type, you may need quick maintenance sessions to remove new hair once every 6 or 12 months after your initial series of laser hair removal treatment.

Waxing, whilst an instant but temporary solution, only removes active hair, is painful and very often results in pimples from hair that snapped instead of been pulled out during the waxing. Because waxing does not permanently remove hair, and prickly stubble grows back quite quickly, waxing is an ongoing treatment and ultimately more expensive than laser.

Shaving is the traditional method of body hair removal. As you will already know it is only a short term solution with inherent issues such as rash from razor burn, ingrown hair pimples and that the hair becomes thicker and darker with each shave.

1./ Does It Hurt: Laser hair removal, when professionally performed with the correct equipment, like that used by Skinsense, does not hurt. You will feel some heat and a quick small sting the first time the laser penetrates the hair follicle and that is all. The clinician will adjust the intensity of the laser according to each individuals own threshold. It is important to remember that the more you feel the quicker the result and fewer treatments will be required to completely eradicate all hair.

2./ How Long Does It Take: Time taken per treatment all depends on the body area size being treated. A face usually takes 20 minutes, whereas a full back or complete Brazilian will take 45 - 60 minutes to complete.

3./ When Will I See Results: Laser hair removal is a long lasting treatment and not a quick temporary fix like shaving or waxing. Because of the body's natural hair growth cycle you should expect to have 4 or 6 treatments to completely remove both active and dormant hair. This may seem a lot, compared to shaving or waxing, but once the hair is gone it gone forever making laser hair removal the most healthy, economical and sensible option for the well groomed man. You should continue to shave and/or trim, but not wax, remaining hair growth between your laser treatment sessions.

5./ I Have Reservations Exposing Myself To Another Person: The quick answer to this is nearly everybody has some level of reservation when it comes to exposing their body to another person. 6./ Do I need To Remove All My Hair: No, you choose what hair to laser away and what hair to keep. Some patients choose to remove everything whilst many prefer to keep some neatly styled body hair, especially on their face and in their pubic area that they and their partner often regard as a sign of masculinity. If you choose to remove everything (and be smooth as baby's bottom) our clinician will make certain that is what you want before proceeding.

7./ Can Any Hair Be Removed: With the exception of hair that has no melamine and is void of colour the laser used by Skinsense will remove any type of body hair irrespective of your ethnicity.

8./ Do I Need Do Anything Before My Treatment: Yes, we ask that shave (not wax) the hair you want to be lasered 2 or 3 days prior to your appointment. The laser needs to travel down the hair follicle to kill the root and cannot do that if the hair is long and lying flat. Shaving beforehand will also help you determine what hair you want to keep and what hair you want lasered away. If you arrive for your treatment with hair that is too long to laser we will use an electric clipper to trim it but there will be an extra charge if we need to do this.

9./ Why Do Men Prefer Laser Hair Removal to Waxing: Laser hair removal is the cleanest, least painful and most effective hygienic method of permanent hair removal. Every man enjoys being well groomed and their partner certainly appreciates the effort they make to do this. 10./ Will Other People Know I Have Had A Treatment: Unless you show or tell them yourself the answer is no. Skinsense totally respect patient confidentiality and do not discuss their patients with anyone else, not even the patients own partner. Should you not want to be seen entering or leaving our premises our clinic has a discrete back entrance that you are free to use. After normal business hours appointments are also able to be made on request by patients with a busy work schedule.
